Melanotan I (MT-I)

What Is Melanotan I?
Melanotan I is a synthetic linear peptide developed from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, a naturally occurring hormone involved in pigmentation and melanocortin signaling.
The regulated pharmaceutical form of Melanotan I is known as afamelanotide. Afamelanotide primarily activates the melanocortin-1 receptor on melanocytes, influencing melanin production. It has been evaluated in controlled human trials involving erythropoietic protoporphyria and other photosensitivity-related conditions.
Evidence concerning an approved afamelanotide implant should not automatically be applied to unregulated products marketed under the name Melanotan I.
