Semaglutide

What Is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide that mimics glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a naturally occurring hormone involved in glucose metabolism and appetite regulation. It binds to GLP-1 receptors to enhance physiological signaling pathways associated with insulin secretion, gastric emptying, and satiety.
Compared with many investigational peptides, semaglutide has been evaluated in numerous randomized clinical trials across metabolic and cardiovascular research, providing one of the most comprehensive evidence bases within the GLP-1 receptor agonist class. (Wilding JPH et al., NEJM, 2021; Rubino D. et al., JAMA, 2021.)
